There has been an on going debate as to whether driving is more advantageous than flying in respect to environmental pollution. There are many factors that affect the choice of transport that one may opt to use to get to his/her destination. Some of the factors include the cost of travelling, the speed and the exact destination that one may opt to use. Very few people put the environment into consideration while they are choosing the definite transport option to use. This is because of the fact that most people think that the environment does not affect them directly. However the environment affects us all directly and that’s why its pollution poses a great risk to our wellbeing.

Airplanes produce more carbon monoxide than cars
A recent research carried out in UK and USA has proved that airplanes produce carbon monoxide which is six times more than that produced by cars. For instance, if 4 people are travelling in a car, they would lead to the emission of 104 kilograms into the atmosphere. The same 4 people travelling in an airplane would be responsible for producing about 736 kilograms of carbon monoxide over the same distance. Therefore if the 4 people were to use the airplane to travel at least five times in a week, this would lead to over 3 tons of carbon monoxide emitted into the atmosphere. This implies that frequent flying all over the world can easily be responsible for more than 90% of the total air pollution in the environment.

Airplanes are quite noisy while flying as compared to cars which people barely notice passing. The great noise production from the environment from the airplanes leads to noise pollution. However noise pollution is greatly ignored as it does not cause any direct impacts to human beings. Research has shown that nearly 92% of all cases of secondary deafness are mainly caused by noise pollution. This condition is mainly common among pilots and other frequents fliers. The effects of air pollution are usually felt in later years whereby the sharpness of the ears diminishes with time.

Offsetting the effects of flying and driving to the environment
Despite the fact that most effects of flying and driving are paramount, they can still be controlled. This is done by lowering the exhaust emissions in both cases. In cars, this can be done by having the car’s engine tuned up to include to completely combust all the fuel that passes through it. Complete combustion leads to the production of carbon dioxide which is a stable and useful gas. In airplanes, it is quite hard to lower the massive production of carbon monoxide. The only remedy that can be done is reducing the frequency of flights especially in destinations where you can comfortably drive. In addition to this airplane manufacturers have started using new technologies to counter the excessive release of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere while flying.

It is a general requirement that each one protects the environment within your capacity. This implies that if you note that your car has been excessively producing exhaust gases, you should have its engine tuned up to correct the defect. It is also important to ensure that you are able to maintain your car in the best condition possible.

Car manufacturers have been involved in a detailed research for the best alternative fuel to petroleum. This is due to the fact that petroleum is becoming very expensive day by day. In addition to this, petroleum also poses as a great hazard and avenue of environmental degradation. This is seen in the view that combustion of petroleum in cars leads to the formation of carbon monoxide. This is a killer disease especially when released into the atmosphere. Carbon monoxide smoothers the oxygen present in the air thereby leading to respiratory related illnesses. Hydrogen has been one of the results of the researches conducted on alternative fuel for cars. Hydrogen is highly advantageous as a car fuel but even so it still has its own setbacks. The main setback of hydrogen as a fuel is that it’s quite bulky and as such requires large storage. In vehicles, there is a storage limitation due to designs used in manufacturing cars. What’s more is that the production of hydrogen is dependent of petroleum which is a non renewable fuel.

Advantages of hydrogen as a fuel
There are two main reasons that make hydrogen to edge out as the most preferred car fuel. These reasons are that hydrogen is found in abundant supply and also that hydrogen is a renewable fuel. Hydrogen makes up to 75% and over of the total composition of the environment. Petroleum on the hand is found in a low percent (20%) and it is not renewable. Analysts warn that by the year 2025 all petroleum deposits will all be exhausted. This expectation has necessitated most world governments such as UK and USA to put into place measures that will enable them to be fully dependent on hydrogen by then. In order for hydrogen to be used as a fuel, there is requirement that it must exist freely in the atmosphere.

Hydrogen’s chemical and physical characteristics increase the viability of hydrogen as a fuel. Combustion of hydrogen is highly exothermic thereby producing high amount of heat. This increases the ability of hydrogen to be used in fuel cells found in hydrogen run cars. Fuel cells are basically electrochemical engines that are tasked with converting chemical energy in hydrogen to electrical energy to be used in running cars. Hydrogen has stable chemical bonds that contain large amounts of energy. While the bonds are being broken, there is production of large amounts of energy. This energy is used in producing electrical energy to be used in cars that use hydrogen as their main fuel.

Benefits of using hydrogen over petroleum as a fuel in cars
The main advantage associated with the use of hydrogen over petroleum as a fuel in cars is that hydrogen contains higher energy than petroleum. Hydrogen has an energy storage capacity of more than 2.8 times than that of petroleum per unit mass. This means that a full tank of hydrogen gas can be used to fuel the car for a distance that is 3 times than the same full tank of petroleum can. Hydrogen as a fuel in cars is fairly cheap as compared to petroleum (gasoline). In addition to this; petroleum is fairly light as compared to petroleum.

In conclusion, it is quite evident that petroleum edges out as the best fuel to use for fuelling cars.

The car industry has been one of the most vibrant sectors in the world. This has been due to the fact that car manufacturers have over the years engaged in a stiff competition amongst themselves. The consequences of this competition have been felt far and wide. The competition has seen the emergence of electric cars that have been used as an alternative to fuel run cars. The electric cars are slowly gaining popularity over time and especially in most of the developed nations. However despite the growth, most car owners still opt to buy cars run by natural gas as opposed to those run by electric power. This situation has further been worsened by the great fall in the price of natural gas. In order to curb this great demand, manufacturers have opted to conducting extensive advertising of the electric cars in the world’s major markets.

Car manufacturers such as Honda have confirmed that their massive advertisement of the electric cars is paying off well. This is due to the fact that car owners all over the world have been familiarized on the advantages of electric cars over the fuel run ones. These advantages mainly lower the maintenance costs of cars such as fuel consumption. It is possible to modify your current fuel consuming car and transform it into an economical car. This is done by retrofitting the engine of your current car to that of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles. In this way ,you are able to cut on the excessive fuel consumption by your car.CNG is less toxic as compared to petrol and diesel used to run cars.

Advantages of electric cars over the fuel run cars
Electric cars are environmental friendly as compared to fuel run cars. This is due to the fact that in electric cars, there is no exhaust emission of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide like there is in fuel run cars. The effects of carbon monoxide from car exhausts have been greatly felt all over the world as it causes the depletion of the ozone layer. In addition to this, the gas also leads to the formation of acids rains witnessed in most developed nations. This rain leads to corrosion of roofs and also rusting in cars. What’s more is that carbon monoxide is a carcinogenic gas that leads to cancer in human beings upon being inhaled.

Electric cars have low maintenance costs as compared to fuel run cars. The engines in the latter are more prone to breakdown especially due to the effect of the fuel on the metals. Electric cars run on electricity which only requires recharging after a substantial long time. More so, the cost of recharging an electric car can not be compared to refueling a car. In electric cars that use fossil fuels to run, it is possible to cut down on their consumption by halving the car’s engine output. In petrol and diesel run cars, changing the engine’s output affects the car’s efficiency.

Electric cars have for a longtime been known as environment friendly cars. This is because of the fact that these cars emit o% of exhaust gases while fuel run cars emit 28% exhaust gases on average. These gases constitute more than half the total air pollution. In conclusion, go green by opting for an electric car over a fuel run car.
